Bee and Carpenter Bee Removal Services

Bees and carpenter bees are common in our region, so you might wonder what to do when you find them on your property. Should you call us for bee removal – or is it better to “leave them bee?”

The answer is: it depends. Bees are vital pollinators that help our gardens thrive, and they’re not typically aggressive. If you can tolerate them and keep a safe distance, they might be worth keeping. However, sometimes they build nests too close to home, and if you’re anxious or allergic to bees, this can be a serious problem. Carpenter bees are pollinators too, but they can quickly damage wooden structures, so for most homeowners, the destruction outweighs the benefits. In the end, it all comes down to your comfort level. If you’re concerned about safety or potential property damage, don’t hesitate – call us for expert bee control services.

We offer bee removal, nest removal, and carpenter bee extermination, so you can enjoy your outdoor spaces without risk or worry. For a free estimate on bee removal in the Southeastern United States, call us today.

How Does Bee Pest Control Work?

Our bee control and carpenter bee control services are hassle-free, fast, and safe. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. We’ll start with an estimate or assessment. If the nest is located on a building, fence, or easily accessible location, we can usually quote you over the phone. If the nest is in a tree, underground, or some other area where removal will be more complex, we’ll schedule an in-person assessment before providing a quote.
  2. The next step is nest removal and treatment of the surrounding area to deter re-infestation. For carpenter bees specifically, we also address their entry holes and apply treatments designed to prevent reinfestation in the same spots. Please note that we don’t offer bee relocation except in Nashville, TN. For other bee control services, we will exterminate the bees before removing the nest.
  3. To reduce the likelihood of future nests, we’ll advise on long-term preventive measures such as sealing gaps in wooden structures, using protective paints or stains, and regularly inspecting for early signs of bee activity. For year-round protection, we also recommend investing in our pest control service plan.

Bees vs Carpenter Bees: What’s the Difference?

Are they “regular” bees or carpenter bees? This can play an important role in your decision of what to do about them. While honeybees and bumblebees are often harmless if they’re far enough away and you’re not allergic to them, carpenter bees can quickly start to damage wooden structures on the property.

Here are some ways to tell them apart:

  • Appearance: Carpenter bees (¾” -1”) are larger than honeybees (½”); they have a shiny, hairless abdomen, black body, with metallic blue or green coloring. Honeybees are fuzzier with yellow and black coloring.
  • Nest Habits: Bees build large nests that are often attached to structures or within trees. These nests can have tens of thousands of individuals that become protective if they sense danger to the hive. Carpenter bees drill into wooden structures and form small nests – usually one female and her offspring.
  • Damage: Carpenter bees are notorious for causing damage to wood, particularly old or weathered wood, as they use it to build their nests. Most bees will mind their own business unless they feel threatened. However, if they do feel threatened, they will not hesitate to sting you. Carpenter bees are less likely to sting, but stings can happen.

Bees vs. Wasps: What’s the Difference?

Do you have bees or wasps? It’s an important distinction. While bees tend to mind their own business, wasps can be aggressive with little warning. Below you’ll find some ways to tell them apart, and if you do have wasps, don’t hesitate to call us for wasp control services.

  • Appearance: Bees are typically more robust with fuzzy bodies that help collect pollen. Wasps have longer, slender bodies with a narrow “waist” between the thorax and abdomen.
  • Nesting Habits: Bees create nests in sheltered areas or, in the case of carpenter bees, bore holes in wood. Wasps build papery nests, often in eaves, tree branches, or underground.
  • Temperament: Bees are usually more docile; though they do sting when threatened, especially near their hive. Wasps can be aggressive for seemingly no reason. They guard their nests vigorously and individuals will sting multiple times.

Is DIY Bees’ Nest Removal Safe?

If you find a nest around your home or business, it makes sense to want to get rid of it. But be careful – no matter what species you’re dealing with, stinging insects always have the potential to injure. Handling a nest on your own could lead to multiple stings, which can be dangerous for anyone – and extremely dangerous for individuals with allergies.

Don’t risk angering the hivemind – it’s always best to leave it to the professionals.

Great company! Very affordable! The staff is extremely friendly & knowledgeable. They really know what they are doing at Lookout. I had a terrible issue with bees getting in my metal roof and they were constantly at my front door & trying to get in the house. I called Lookout & they sent a guy out & he took care of my Bee problem. I have not had any more issues with the bees. I will be calling Lookout Pest Control for any other pest issues that may arise.
