But did you know that there are two insects you may be seeing and calling “ladybugs”? That’s right, there are true ladybugs, and there are also Asian lady beetles, and both are common in our region. Don’t let it reach that point – give us a call for ladybug control services.

How Our Ladybug Control Works

In the world of pest control, there may sometimes be multiple ways to address a problem. At Lookout Pest Control, our goal is to help you find the best solution for both now and the future.

  • We start with an in-depth inspection, pinpointing where ladybugs are gathering — often near windows, door frames, and attic spaces where they find warmth and shelter. We’ll also check for cracks, gaps, or other entry points that may allow them access indoors.
  • Once we understand the scope of the issue, our team applies targeted treatment. Our treatments aim to eliminate problems while minimizing harm to beneficial insects overall.
  • Finally, we focus on long-term prevention out by identifying effective exclusion measures including repairing screens and sealing entry points.

Are Ladybugs Good or Bad for the Garden?

Ladybugs are good for your garden. Some of their favorite foods include aphids, mites, and other harmful garden pests, making ladybugs a viable option for garden pest control on a small scale.

Are Asian Lady Beetles Good or Bad for the Garden?

Asian lady beetles are similar to ladybugs not just in how they look, but in their diet, too. They also prey on harmful insects like aphids, so they’re good for your garden.

However, Asian lady beetles are also classified as an invasive species. While they are known for preying on garden pests, they may also overpopulate, outcompete, and overwhelm an area. So although they may be a positive for your garden, they’re a net negative for the ecosystem overall.

How to Tell the Difference Between Ladybugs and Asian Lady Beetles

  • Back: Asian lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis) can be a brighter orange and often have a light “M” or “W” marking behind their head. Ladybugs tend to be more of a deep red with well-defined black spots.
  • Head: Ladybugs have heads that are mostly white; Asian lady beetles have heads that are black with white spots.
  • Overwintering: Asian lady beetles often invade homes in large clusters; native ladybugs generally stay closer to garden areas or hide away in smaller groups.
